The Mentor

blog details

A mentor is someone who sees more talent and ability within you, than you see in yourself, and helps bring it out of you.” — Bob Proctor.

Mentorship programs have become a cardinal part of thriving companies’ success stories. The mentor plays a valuable role within the mentoring program and the company itself. It is this individual’s knowledge, experience and character that is going to be multiplied within the company and help shape its future. Thus, HR coordinators need training, guidance and resources to identify these key individuals.

When these key mentors are identified, it is in the companies’ best interest to also develop their mentor’s skills. Mentor training is a core component of mentorship programs, as often times mentors and HR Coordinators’ meaning of mentorship differs from one another. The program makes sure everybody takes the correct expectation, drive and development from the mentoring experience. It also helps if the partaking individuals have mentoring networks, as not only can more knowledge be shared informally, but the overall experience becomes a more enjoyable experience. The best managers and specialists will commit themselves with enthusiasm over many years

The benefits of mentoring programs are endless. The program prepares your mentors to excel in their role. In this way, they will be able to start working together more quickly and achieve higher successes. Mentees as well as mentors learn how to build positive and successful relationships, advancing personally and professionally. This allows the mentors to grow and develop as leaders. Furthermore, mentors learn how they can pass on their valuable experience and knowledge to high potential mentees in a goal-oriented way, cultivating an environment of mutual support.

A mentor impacts the life of their mentee and leaves them with his own trademark and a relationship that might last a lifetime. Great coaches spend on average 2-years in training in order to have a strong impact. We know you obviously have less time, thus make sure you take a course that is compacted and does not waste your time. “What do mentors do to drive success? How can you leverage your role for the success of your mentee, as well as yourself?” These are questions that you need to be able to answer before stepping into the role.

In this modern world employees want to contribute, develop and be developed. Thus, companies need to equip their key employees with the right training to allow the effective transmission of knowledge through generations, across countries and between cultures. This is exactly what mentorship programs provide.
